About Gatepost

Built for the people who show up before most of us wake up

Gatepost exists because farriers are running serious businesses with tools that were never designed for them. We set out to fix that.

Where we started

Farriery is a specialized trade. The software wasn't.

A working farrier manages a logistics operation. Dozens of clients spread across a wide area, horses with specific care requirements and medical histories, routes that change daily, invoices that need to go out in the field, and a truck full of equipment to track. They do all of this while performing physically demanding skilled work, often in areas with no cell signal.

The tools available to them were never designed with this work in mind. Generic service apps, disconnected workflows, invoicing that didn't belong to the appointment it came from — nothing was built from the ground up around how the trade actually operates.

Gatepost started from a simple premise: farriers deserve purpose-built software, made by someone independent, that works the way the trade works. Farriers are still who we build for first — and the same foundation now serves other mobile service professionals, like pet groomers and house cleaners, too.

Gatepost is built around a single guiding principle: the software should fit the trade, not the other way around.

That means horse and client data tied to every appointment, routes that account for real travel time, invoices generated in the field, and offline access as a core requirement — not an afterthought.

Why "Gatepost"

The first thing you see when you pull up to a barn

A gatepost marks the entrance — it's where the visit begins, before you've even unloaded the truck. That's the moment Gatepost is built for: showing you the horse's history, your next stop, and your day's route before you step out of the cab.

How it started

A father decided to solve a problem for his son.

David Sidoff and Devon Schobert met through volunteering at their church. David — who has spent his career in IT and business technology — had a son who was a working farrier struggling with the same problem farriers everywhere face: a business that demands real operational discipline, and software that simply wasn't up to it.

The existing tools were generic and partial — built for service businesses broadly, never for this trade specifically. David thought they could build something better. He brought the idea to Devon, who had the technical background to make it real. So they did.

Every feature in Gatepost came from real conversations with working farriers. Route optimization, live GPS ETA, offline mode, the two-way SMS confirmation flow — all of it came directly from farriers describing their day and what made it harder than it needed to be. No product committee. No investor roadmap. Just two friends paying attention to a trade that deserved better tools.

David brings decades of experience in IT infrastructure and business technology. He keeps the business running — from infrastructure and integrations to growth and partnerships — while making sure Gatepost is built on a foundation that scales.

Devon Schobert
Developer

Devon handles the code — web, mobile, backend, and everything in between. His background spans IT, business analysis, change management, and a stint as a Scrum Master on a Robotic Process Automation team. That breadth shows in how Gatepost is built: it's not just technically sound, it's designed around how people actually work.

What we stand behind

These aren't marketing language. They're decisions we've made about how to build and sell this product.

One flat price

$79/month. Every feature, every platform, every farrier on your team. No add-ons, no tiers, no surprises at billing time.

Completely independent

No backing from any horseshoe brand, supplier, or distributor. Gatepost has no financial interest in what you buy or who you buy it from.

Offline-first

Built for places with no cell signal — because that's where the work happens. The app runs without an internet connection.

Your data is yours

Export everything at any time. CSV export is built in, not an add-on. No lock-in. If you leave, you leave with your data.

Short feedback loops

A two-person team means when something is broken or missing, it gets fixed fast. You have a direct line to the people who build Gatepost.
